About Us ...............................................................................................................................................................
OUR
EWB-USA’s initial inward vision is as a project coordination, funding, supervision and documentation organization that links university engineering schools with project opportunities, primarily in the developing world. In the future EWB-USA anticipates both professional and institutional partners and the ability to link this cadre of human capacity into the broad range of development programs.
The objective of all these activities is not only to contribute to new and ongoing development projects in an effective way, but to expand the dimensions of experience for emerging and practicing engineers. It is our vision that this is a primary path to achieving a more sustainable world, without suffering the consequences of engineering projects that are socially, culturally, or economically inappropriate.
Engineers have a central role in building a sustainable future; in fact, they have an obligation to provide leadership in that direction.
OUR
The mission of EWB-USA is to partner with developing communities to improve their quality of life through the implementation of environmentally sustainable, equitable, and economical engineering projects. In the process of working to advance developing communities, EWB-USA promotes the development of globally aware and internationally responsible engineers, students, and professionals.
At the San Diego State University Chapter (EWB-SDSU) of Engineers Without Borders-USA we are spreading both the vision and the mission, while developing internationally responsible students. We partner with international aid projects addressing community needs including the design and construction of water, waste-water, sanitation, energy, and shelter systems. The students’ goal is to incorporate and train the community in all phases of the sustainable projects to ensure ownership, appropriateness and long-term effectiveness.
EWB engages developing communities in resolving particular infrastructure needs that the community itself has identified. EWB involves students in every step of the process, enabling them to learn firsthand about solutions to the problems of the developing world.
